Discover the history
The 2008 Ferrari F430 GTC Evo was a significant evolution of Ferrari’s F430 GT2 race car, developed by Michelotto Automobili in collaboration with Ferrari Corse Clienti. It was built specifically for the GT2 class of international endurance racing, competing in prestigious events such as the FIA GT Championship, the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GTC Evo version represented an upgrade over the standard F430 GT2 with enhanced aerodynamics and improved engine performance, making it one of Ferrari’s most successful GT cars of the late 2000s.
Technically, the F430 GTC Evo was based on the Ferrari F430 road car but incorporated significant modifications for racing. It retained a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, producing around 450 horsepower, paired with a sequential gearbox. These features ensured not only the car’s competitiveness but also its reliability over long-distance endurance races. The lightweight body and enhanced downforce improved its agility on tracks, while the refined suspension system provided excellent handling in the GT2 class.
The F430 GTC Evo quickly established itself as a formidable competitor, securing numerous titles and podiums throughout its career. In its debut year, it helped Ferrari secure the GT2 Manufacturer’s Cup in both the FIA GT Championship and the ALMS in 2007. It also took class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and many other endurance races, solidifying Ferrari’s dominance in GT racing. Chassis #2626, one of only 11 Evo variants built, enjoyed a successful racing career with AF Corse, one of Ferrari’s primary racing teams. Driven by renowned Ferrari factory drivers such as Giancarlo Fisichella, Jaime Melo, Gianmaria Bruni, and Toni Vilander, this car achieved victories at circuits like Silverstone and Algarve and competed in multiple editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Sebring 12 Hours. Notably, it secured class victories and podiums at prestigious events like the 2009 Sebring 12 Hours and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The Ferrari F430 GTC Evo continued to race at the highest levels until 2011, at which point it was retired from competition. After its racing career, chassis #2626 was restored by AF Corse and even returned to the track in historic racing events, further underscoring its lasting legacy. The Ferrari F430 GTC Evo remains a symbol of Ferrari’s dominance in GT2 racing and is a highly sought-after car among collectors for both its performance and racing pedigree.
